![]() It sounds great in the demos but the speaker - and the many claims of boxiness and low build quality - do put me off a little. The Artisan 30 takes this tone and distils it to a new level of tonal purity. Which is a great tube but I do worry if (even at 15 watts/5 annuetated) it'll be still obscenely loud and therefore stepping on it's bigger brother's toes. Sorry - I was referring to the EF86 in the Artisan 15/30. The way it's constructed is almost hilariously cheap and flimsy - although it doesn't actually seem to be 'bad' as such. An Alnico Gold definitely won't fit - even if you want to spend that much - and a larger ceramic magnet might not either. The speaker is an issue in the new AC10 too - it's not only some sort of cheap 'derived from' small-magnet 10", replacing it with something better may be difficult because it's right behind the power valves. The E元4 is known for its strong mids and aggressive character and infuses the Artisan 10 AE with truckloads of warm British crunch. E元4s feature a pentode design and are at the epicenter of what's referred to as the 'British' amplifier sound. It's nothing at all like the original, other than the name and the EL84s. The Blackstar Artisan 10 AE packs an E元4 power tube. 12" speaker over the 10" in the Vox is a big pull for me but I'd still be longing for that EF86 goodness!ġ2" speaker over the 10" in the Vox is a big pull for me but I'd still be longing for that EF86 goodness! The AE model is based on the Plexi Channel of the Artisan I believe. Just always baffled as to why a Bstar get such a poor rep in guitar circles and I've seen some comments about poor customer service/QC etc. It may well be overkill but I'll keep on the lookout for one.Īs for the QC. 'The concept behind the Artist Series was to create an affordable boutique amplifier thats within reach of gigging guitarists,' explains Blackstars Joel Richardson. Yes, the A30 is a monster of an amp but also welded to the deck! If you like the general sound of the 30 why not audition the Artisan 15? Same pre amp topology (but simpler) EF86 option and pretty loud for a 15, even louder if you swap the Greenback for a 100dB/W/mtr speaker. I have read no reports of the new 10W SE amps (IC, did you not say the speaker choice was a bit 'mere'?) But I am "ideologically opposed" to SE designs anyway!
